From the moment you decide to build your custom home, you will start making selections and will probably continue to do so until the completion of your home. This can become overwhelming and may even have you second guessing yourself and the process. To help eliminate some of your anxiety or worry, at Gibson Contracting our dedicated Project Managers and Designers at Mudita Designs are here to walk you through the steps and help you with the selections.
Even if you haven’t selected a builder yet, make sure to keep notes on what styles, materials, colors and look and feel you are going for. By having some starting point, you can begin making your selections. Early on selections include: roof colour, exterior doors, and garage doors. Then you focus on finer details that start to create your home; this includes things like plumbing fixture, cabinets, appliances, lighting, mirrors, shower doors, and similar items for your home’s interior.
During the selection of the finer details, this is where clients find the selection daunting. The Designers at Mudita are here to make it easier for you. Working with your Gibson Contracting Project Manager, this duo will work to keep you on budget, provide styling tips, and help really simplify the process. With each selection, you will begin to see your home come to life.
Once you’ve made your selection, it isn’t always set in stone, you have some time and flexibility (within reason). Make sure you take the time to think about your selections, as changing selections after a certain deadline can result in extra costs and shifted timelines. You want to be able to look around your home 20 years from now and be satisfied with the selections you made.
The clearer the picture in your mind of what you want your home to look and feel like, the faster you will get through the selection process. If you have a pretty good idea of the basic colors you like, and other choices that involve personal taste and style (such as: vinyl vs hardwood, hardy vs stucco, contemporary vs timberframe, neutral vs vibrant, and the list goes on), then it should be relatively easy for you to make your selections based on that.
Create your vision board going into the project and be open to changing your mind and flexibility! Try to have fun, and use your Builder to help guide you.
